Hi guys, so as many of you know I was less active recently with only doing some smaller additions to suites by neiio
and others. I am still very busy with college but expect to get some free time during the July - September. I am slowly getting into some things again and you might get a big release soon (NO PROMISES)
. I also want to adress few more things below so if you're interested then please, continue.
With SSC15 submission deadline
ending next week, I'd like to adress my reviews on the submissons. While many have taken the criticism the way I wanted (take what you might agree with and forget the rest), I do want to prevent being looked at as snob. You can see that my comments are different from the ones I leave on your custo goodies during the year (although I couldn't help in some cases and just stopped by to say hi, to those I am sorry xd), and that is because I, along with other judges, want to give you a deeper, more meaningful feedback, focusing on the strenghts and possible weaknesses of your work. This is simply the way we are used to in the contests, and is a custom to annual SSC. With most of the feedback people get today being a fav and a comment "Very nice", I personally feel that criticism is something you almost have to demand from someone, and something that you need to treasure. Plus, there are not a lot of us left, and sometimes sounding harsh in the comments breaks the community apart, which is exactly the opposite I want. So if you, or anybody you know has taken my comments hardly, I hope this explains the way they are structured and meant. I don't expect you to agree with everything, and that would be a bad idea too, because you have your brain, and I have mine
With that out of the way I have a little announcement regarding the licensing of my work
. I am one of those people who had limited issues with license breaking here on DA (but you can always find a douche that ignores it) and for that I am very thankfull to all of you who asked for permissions, gave the credit, sometimes even sent a note with the use. It is also because of this that I switched most of my work from CC Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivatives to CC Attribution-NonCommercial
. What does this mean for you? Well, it means you don't need to ask for permission to release a modification of them.
I feel that this license will probably be a lot easier for any of you that decide to use any of my work as building stones for your own, and I also feel that this is the way customization scene mostly operates for few years now. There are not enough people who make things from scratch, because most of the time, sadly, software lacks documentation, it's outdated and sometimes even worse, it's dead and the only way it's shared is through skins. Now, to break the license into bits and pieces:
- You can share and redistribute my work - I'd prefer you not redistribute, but I don't want to limit this in case I won't be active or files are no longer online
- You can modify my work, and you can release the modification without asking for permission
- You have to give me credit
- You mustn't use my work for any commercial use, or benefit - this also counts sharing bloatware with the work!
